SS 2012 TRENDS!

Elie Saab Spring-Summer 2012

Hi everyone, Alice here, once more! So I decided that since this blog is technically supposed to be dedicated to fashion (and not just yours truly in various subtly unfashionable outfits) I should write a bit about the trends of the following season, DESPITE the fact that I rarely pay any attention whatsoever to what designers say should be worn. And yet... The other day, while my nails were drying (bright retro red!) I leafed through a few of my new magazines halfheartedly only to discover that the new trends were VERY much worth attention this season!

Anyhow, without further ado, ladies and gents: I present to you the top THREE hottest trends of the season!

1) The Roaring Twenties

Paris – Pedro Lourenço, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Chloe, Yves Saint-Laurent Spring-Summer 2012 (from here)

Gosh, there are no words in the world that can express how happy I was to see this trend! You probably don't know this, but I've loved F. Scott Fitzgerald for years; I was with him with Tender is the Night and The Beautiful and the Damned, and OF COURSE I can't wait till the remake of The Great Gatsby on screens in December 2012!

As for the silhouette, however, I can't say I'm too pleased with it. You see, waist definition is something I can rarely live without (looking like a pudgy marshmallow without it!), which was why I was even happier, if possible, to see the next trend...

2) The Fab Fifties!

Prada Spring-Summer 2012

The fifties were truly a grand era! What with hotties like James Dean, icons like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, pin-up and hourglass figures, let's just say it's a time I would have gladly agreed to live in...I'd even put up with the general sexism, I think! The best part is definitely the accent upon the waist, which is created with large puffy petticoats and wide belts; or, like in Prada's collection, with nothing in between the top and bottom at all!

Obviously the fifties and sixties are hellishly popular now: few people don't know about the hit TV show Mad Men, even if they haven't watched it. I have, a few episodes at least, and even ignoring Don Draper's obvious sex appeal and the curious plot twists, a fashion connoisseur can get their share of magnificent fifties outfits.

3) Metallic is the new black!

Designers allowed their imagination to flow freely with colours this time, substituting them altogether for some lovely golds and silvers. Seriously, who can resist the appeal of something shiny? No girl can, in my opinion! However, personally I'll be careful with the metallics this season - maybe black or white will be safer when combined with gold or silver than some wacky colours!

But then, who wants safety? Everyone should wear whatever the hell they want and be proud of it.

And that, my friends, is what I think of fashion in general and this season in particular! Let me know how you liked this post and if you want to see more like it in the future.

XOXO,
Alice

    1. I think it's a very spectacular style, perfect for outings and stuff, especially, but my problem is similar - plus I always want to have my waist defined! However, I'll definitely take advantage of this trend where accessories are concerned - feathers and ridiculously shiny jewellery to the max! <3
